Small group game

Who's the Murderer?

Description:

Prepare a space with enough seating for all participants. Although chairs are ideal, they're not mandatory. This game is best played at night for atmosphere, but it can be played anytime.

Instructions:

  1. Appointing a narrator is crucial as they control the game progression and add to the suspense by setting the atmosphere.

  2. Have all participants gather in a circle and close their eyes.

  3. The narrator will select a "murderer" and a "doctor" by gently tapping them on the shoulder (it's important to announce this selection process in advance). Alternatively, you can distribute placards labeled 'doctor', 'civilian', or 'murderer'. Depending on the size of the group, consider selecting multiple murderers and doctors.

  4. The game progresses in "rounds" that simulate a full day, starting with nighttime.

  5. During the night cycle, the narrator instructs the murderer(s) to open their eyes and silently select a target to "kill". The chosen person is noted by the narrator, then the murderer(s) must close their eyes again.

  6. The process is repeated with the doctor(s). They open their eyes and choose a person to "save". The person chosen by the doctor is immune to the murderer's choice for the night.

  7. As day breaks, the narrator instructs everyone to open their eyes. The narrator then reveals who the murderer targeted. If the target and the saved person are the same, they live; otherwise, they are out of the game.

  8. Participants must then deliberate and decide who among them is the murderer(s). The accused are allowed to defend themselves, after which a vote ensues to determine who (if any) is to be executed. The accused and executed person must then reveal their role.

The game continues until either all murderers have been eliminated, or only two people remain. If all murderers are eliminated, the civilians win. Conversely, if two members are left, the murderer(s) wins.

Remember: the main goal of the game is to have fun!

Target Group:

This game is suitable for all ages. However, children might find it challenging as they may be tempted to peek during the game.
